Wildfires are a continual concern for forest lands in the US; this year alone,
over 7 million acres have burned.Several large fires in recent years have highlighted the need for early response to suppress dangerous wildfires. Lightning fires in particular pose a significant threat -
accounting for 53% of the acreage burned from 2018 to 2022.Lightning fires can start almost anywhere, in places where response time is longer and detection may be slower. Catching and monitoring these fires early, before they spread, is critical to protecting human life and property.
